Seminar on Cattle Transport / Milestone seminar of CATRA project

CATRA is an acronym for the EU project titled: Minimising stress inducing factors on cattle during handling and transport to improve animal welfare and meat quality

The main objective of the project is to develop methods for controlling and minimising stress inducing factors during handling and transport of cattle to improve animal welfare and meat quality. In the project 11 partners from 8 countries are participating. The project started in February 2000 and is continuing until February 2003.

Within the project management, it is intended to organise a special seminar at the 18th month of the project, where specialists in the subject area and other interested groups participate.

 

Objective of the seminar

The objective of the seminar is evaluate the progress of the project, discuss and consider new ideas emanated during the experiments, adjustment of the project activities to new question raised after the project start. This will be an important feedback to improve and adjust the remaining project activities based on the new conditions.

The seminal has two parts, where the first part is open for public and second part is only for the consortium. In the first part, members of the steering group, representatives from industries and companies (abattoirs and vehicle industries, transport companies), policy makers and scientists in the subject areas are expected to participate. In this part, the objective, scope and progress of the project will be presented and discussed in detail..
